Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 26, 2026
This policy explains what data Sygal handles and how. Sygal is a local-first desktop application: the vast majority of your data never leaves your device. The data controller is Cyrill Semah (Paris, France). For any request, contact contact@sygal.app.
1. Data processed on your device
Your documents, their converted Markdown and JSON, your local library and search index, your settings and any API keys you enter are all stored and processed locally on your machine. We do not receive, collect or store them. The application has no account system and sends no usage telemetry.
2. OCR on images
When you run OCR on an image or screenshot, that image is sent to the provider you choose (OpenAI, Mistral or Anthropic) using your own API key. This request goes directly from your device to that provider; Sygal does not act as an intermediary and does not receive the image. Your use of that provider is governed by their own privacy policy and terms.
3. Email and the website
If you submit your email address on this website to receive the download link or product updates, that address is stored by our email provider, Brevo, on our behalf. We use it only to send you the download link and occasional updates about Sygal. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us.
4. Hosting and cookies
This website is hosted by Vercel. It does not use advertising or analytics cookies. Only strictly necessary technical storage may be used to remember your light/dark theme preference.
5. Retention
We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed, or until you ask us to delete it. On-device data is retained on your machine and is removed when you delete it in the app or uninstall.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object to the processing of your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@sygal.app. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (the French data protection authority).
7. Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top reflects the latest version.
